Photograph by Lincoln Cato. The exhibition showcases a diverse range of mediums, including metal road signs, tents, photographs on textile and self-adhesive tape. By presenting stories and ideas through these various forms, we get to better understand the experiences of others - seeing through a different lens. Each artwork allows us to humanise the world around us, whether it be far or near. With the works being shown in Hay Castle and its grounds, the boundary of seeing a castle as a traditional landmark gets broken. You'll see artwork in the form of a flag by British Ghanian artist Larry Achiampong flying above the castle and neon lettering by Hilary Jack stating ' No borders, just horizons, only freedom' on the castle walls. By partnering with Meadow Arts to showcase BorderLands, Hay Castle lets us know they are happy to amplify artists voices and messages surrounding topics many institutions shy away from. After graduating from Lancaster University with a first-class degree in fine art, Anya has been widely recognised through awards and exhibitions. Her solo exhibition 'Emerging Perspectives' commissioned by Punch Records is being shown in the Jewellery Quarter at the Hive. The industrial feel of the Hive’s exhibition space complements the organic nature of Anya’s work perfectly, with various corners and nooks allowing you to wander and explore at your own pace. The pieces are stark, but with layers of softness - whether it be oil paintings, mixed media, drawings or structural pieces. Emerging Perspectives invites you to look closer, to notice textures, tones and details you might have missed the first time. Seeing Anya’s work in person is an inspiring experience. Upon entering the exhibition, you’ll get taken on a journey through the grooves and shadows and even have the opportunity to look in Anya’s sketchbook to see how she develops her artwork and techniques. The exhibition is open until Friday 14th August at the Hive, 10am – 3:30pm.
